The long and short of it all: Anne Hathaway’s style evolution!
If there’s one word that truly describes Anne Hathaway, it’s ‘evolutionary’. From the obscure teenager to the charming princess in The Princess Diaries and the plain-jane journalist to the fashion diva assistant in The Devil Wears Prada, her characters are always a metamorphosis. Strangely, the same can be said about her personal style. Thankfully, none of her style looks ever included huge, frizzy hair and braces! Yet, it’s been quite a journey from the sweet and simple looks to the hot red-carpet ones, with a few risqué turns along the way. Let’s flip back a few pages of Anne Hathaway’s style diary.
Early 2002 saw Anne in a look that can only be described as fresh out of high school. Long straight tresses, unshapely, boring dresses, and hardly any makeup. Her smile is as usual the saving grace.
Who would’ve thought a hairstyle change is all it would take? She looked adorable sporting both styles of bangs in 2005. While still managing to look fresh-faced and innocent, here’s when her movie star personality began to emerge.
Whoa! Would you believe it? The same Anne was trying out different looks and acing them by 2006. Floor-sweeping gowns were perfect for accentuating her slim silhouette and she wasn’t afraid to try plunging necklines and risqué cuts. What’s most interesting is her choice of hairdos – from old-school, side swept waves to classic up-dos and a simple ponytail…she wowed and stunned!
Though Anne stuck mostly to long gowns and the classic red lips and pulled back look, she remained a red-carpet favourite for her colourful and classy sartorial choices.
Anne showed off a new side in the late 2000’s with looks ranging from spunky to playful to modern and edgy. Bonus points for the versatile long bob!
Come 2012 and suddenly all everyone could talk about was her latest look for Les Miserables. We know how heartbreaking chopping off those locks can be but Anne looked simply delightful and radiant in her cute little pixie cut.
There it is! From plain jane to modern goddess to chic style icon – Anne Hathaway ruled hearts and red carpets even when she wasn’t the most stylish in the room. Which one’s your favourite style?
