Essentials for an Iconic summer

The sun is shining and those pretty looking drinks are calling. But the Middle Eastern summer is known to be strong and sultry and stepping out during it might make you want to think twice. We think summers should be all about breezy, effortless style and that casual, scrunched up look that our LA celebrities flaunt.

Summers are the time to stop hiding and be bold, to build sand castles and story tales, and to let your whims and fancies stray. This summer, we suggest, you let loose. Explore a new beach or an undiscovered street; experiment with a new style. Whether you bask in the sunshine or hide from it under wide-rimmed hats, you can do it looking like a million bucks. Here are our nine summer essentials to get you on your way to a beautiful summer:

    1. Sunglasses
Cover up with a brand new pair of sunglasses! There are so many to choose from – wayfarers, cat eyes, big rounds. Don’t be afraid to experiment with colour either; bright red and blue wayfarers, tortoiseshell cat eyes and big frames are all the rage. At the end of the day, ditch the trends to pick the one that suits you the most.

    2. Sandals
Show off your feet in strappy sandals. Sandals let your feet breathe and are super comfortable. Wear them to the beach or the mall ‘cause they look good no matter what you wear. Just remember to keep your feet freshly pedicured though! PRO TIP: To revive tired feet, soak them in warm water and salt at the end of a long day.

    3. Tops
There’s nothing better than feeling the softness of a light breeze on the back of your neck on a hot summer day. Think light and airy when selecting tops for the summer. Avoid collars, thick materials and suffocating necklines. Opt for halters and racerbacks. The key to selecting an ideal summer top? Breathe.
    4. Totes
Totes are your best-friend for the summer. Whether you need to pack an extra pair of shoes or all your make-up essentials and a book and some food, there will always be room for more. The vibrant colours and lovely prints always seem to call out to us from a store display! Plus totes are roomy, versatile and just ideal for a day out in the sun.

    5. Accessories!
If your life is a movie, then minimalism should be its theme. Keep it simple with a funky neckpiece. Summer is when you keep it light and cool so avoid chunky accessories or too many pieces together. The key to accessorising right – don’t let your accessories overpower your outfit. Instead they should subtly enhance it.

    6. Maxi dress
Summers make for long, lazy afternoons spent under a beach umbrella with a light breeze blowing your hair and cool waves lapping at your feet. Sounds lovely, doesn’t it? Romance the heat with this soft, flowy maxi dress. Team up with strappy sandals for long walks at the beach – all the stuff your favourite movies are made of.

    7. White tunic
We love white! And we can’t emphasise enough on how absolutely essential it is for your summer wardrobe. It beats the heat quite literally by reflecting the rays back and keeps you cool. A white tunic is a must-have because it’s at least three outfits in one! Wear it as a dress, a throw-over or over jeans or shorts. There’s no way you can go wrong with this one.

    8. Shorts
What’s not to love about shorts in the summer? Shorts are just like a summer romance; full of fun, vibrance and guilt-inducing pleasures. Live it up in pastels, vibrant colours, tribal prints or even lace. For the more demure, there are the not-so-short shorts going up to the knee. Pair these with a cropped tee or vest and go seize the day.

    9. Coloured & printed bottoms
If you must cover up, do it in style. Coloured jeans are doing the rounds of celeb wardrobes and it’s time you brought them to yours. Confused about which colour to pick? In the words of Coco Chanel, “The best color in the whole world is the one that looks good, on you!” Break a rule or two with the native printed pajama pants. Don’t let the name mislead you. They are every bit as chic as the skinniest denim. Wear it with a fitted tank top in solid colours to balance your look. Who said the sun has to be the brightest thing this summer?
